The Latest Design of the New Maldives Airport VIP Terminal

The latest design of the new Maldives Airport VIP Terminal showcases the expertise of renowned architect Yuji Yamazaki and the impeccable detailing by AECOM. Developed by Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), this four-storey terminal represents a two-phase project. Phase one, currently completed, spans approximately 3,200 square meters, with the ground floor dedicated to VVIP services and the first and second floors allocated for VIP and CIP services, respectively. Once fully realized, the terminal will offer a total of 6,800 square meters, a significant upgrade from the previous 670 square meters.

Current Upgrades on the Expansion Project

Velana International Airport is in the midst of an ambitious $1 billion expansion project, aimed at accommodating the anticipated increase in passenger traffic to 7.5 million by 2030. Scheduled for completion in 2025, this expansive project includes the construction of a new 78,000 square meter international passenger terminal, designed to handle up to 7.5 million passengers annually. The terminal, set to open its doors in 2025, will introduce a host of modern facilities and services to enhance the passenger experience.
