Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport (IATA: ANF, ICAO: SCFA) lies about 10 km (6 miles) north of Antofagasta city center and approximately 3 km inland from the Pacific coast. Nestled in the Cerro Moreno area, the airport occupies a coastal plateau just beyond the Atacama Desert. Its strategic position—just north of the urban area, allows seamless access to the city and supports road connectivity via the Pan-American Highway. Serving both civilian and Chilean Air Force operations, the airport acts as a vital entry point to the region’s mining zones and coastal destinations.

Andrés Sabella Gálvez International Airport (ANF/SCFA) serves as the gateway to Chile’s mining-rich Antofagasta Region and is located approximately 10 km north of the city, just 3 km inland from the Pacific coast at an elevation of 139 m (455 ft). Opened in the 1950s as Cerro Moreno Airport, it was renamed in 1992 to honor local writer and engineer Andrés Sabella Gálvez and underwent major modernization and terminal expansion, first inaugurated in the early 2000s with 7,000 m² of new facilities. The airport features a single asphalt runway (01/19) approximately 2,600 m long (soon extending closer to 2,800 m), capable of handling Airbus A320-family jets and even larger widebody aircraft. It functions as a joint civil-military field, co-located with the Cerro Moreno Air Base of the Chilean Air Force. ANF plays a strategic role as the principal air hub in northern Chile, linking Antofagasta with domestic destinations such as Santiago, Concepción, and La Serena, and limited international service (notably to Lima via LATAM Perú). As both a passenger and air cargo facility, ANF is crucial to regional commerce and supports the mining sector's logistics needs.
